Where to start?

Now that book one in the Magic Catalyst Chronicles series is available, and book two is in progress, I wanted to give you a little insight as to what’s going on in my head as I’m writing the series.

I wrote the bulk of the first three books and the outline for the fourth on paper in my spare time, before I ever sat down at my computer. This has been a passion project for me for the last four months, inspired by a series of rather crazy dreams I had. Now like most dreams, my inspiration started in the middle of the story, and I’ve had to work my way backwards to try and figure out how we got there.

That’s part of the reason book one starts a little slow. There is a lot going on outside Emily’s scope of knowledge. And her scope of knowledge is admitted small right now. Because I enjoy reading first person perspective, I knew that would be a challenge, both for me as the writer and for you as the reader.

In the beginning there is a lot going on in Emily’s world. Trying to work out what she would and wouldn’t make a priority was difficult. What she ends up deciding to focus on is only partially within her control. It’s heavily influenced by the her gut reactions to things, as well as people around her.

Throughout the series, I hope to shed more light on some of these mysteries that she doesn’t focus on right away in book one. I’ll be trying to doing it in a way that flows naturally. We’ll have to wait and see how well I can accomplish that.

I admit, writing the back of the book blurb for Something Stolen, Something Found was the biggest struggle for me. Honestly, I probably could have done a better job of it. I personally tend to skip reading the back of books. I do this because I hate spoilers, even unintentional ones. Part of the joy I find in reading is the discovery and the mystery of what’s to come. When I’m already anticipating the details mentioned in the blurb and wondering when they are going to happen, well it takes me out of the story.

I’m an avid reader, I average 300 or more books a year. The more I read of a genre, the more I discover about that what I like and don’t like as a reader. That being said, I know that what I write won’t be to everyone’s taste. I accept and understand that, just as not ever book and series I’ve read has been to my taste.

I’m writing the series in a long novella formate, to give the you the opportunity to opt out at anytime. Each book will have what I hope to be a natural stopping point, even if there are things that still need to be resolved. I’ll do my best to avoid true cliffhangers, which drive me crazy as a reader.

My goal in putting these books out there for you to read, is the hope that I can share some of that passion with you. It’s my hope that you will enjoy reading about Emily’s journey as much as I’m enjoying writing it.

Now, it’s my goal to have something to share with you here each week. I can’t promise I’ll be successful, but I’ll do my best. Thanks for spending some of your time with me.
